How Important is Nutrition in Generations to Come?
An experiment of over ten years was carried out several decades ago by a Dr. Francis Marion Pottenger. His interest was the effects of diet on laboratory animals- cats. He chose to study the effects of raw versus cooked diet. He fed half of the cats raw meat and raw milk, and the other half were fed cooked meat and pasteurized milk. Rapid deterioration was observed in the group that was fed cooked meat and milk, whereas the other group continued to flourish. Evidence of problems in the first cooked-diet group were in reproduction, such as miscarriages. The mothering behavior began to deteriorate, along with the coat becoming dull and rough. By the second generation the kittens in the cooked-group were so vicious they had to be handled with protective equipment. Does this sound like something children are experiencing today (ADD and ADHD come to mind.)? Next, skeletal melformations began to show, and by the third generation cats were unable to reproduce and died.
The experiment shows the powerful effects of diet in generations to follow. Makes you wonder if we, or generations to follow, may be guinea pigs in a mass scale experiment of a highly industrialized living? Is our present civilization already a part of Pottenger's experiment?
Pottenger's Cats . . .
Dr. Francis M. Pottenger, Jr., MD. He was dedicated to the cause of preventing chronic illness and made significant contributions to the understanding of the role of nutrition in maintaining good health. His chance observation regarding the effect of foods on the mortality rate of cats led to his classical experiments in cat feeding. More than 900 cats were studied over ten years. A new science- Glycobiology has emerged! Eight specific sugars (glyconutrients) have been identified for the support of proper cell structures, processes, and functions (Harper's Biochemistry, 24th ed.). A blend of these eight innate-sugars from plant-rich sources has been developed, along with an entire line of products based on this amazing discovery! Are you ready to rediscover "wellness?"

Aloe Vera Expert Visits Uganda
New Vision (Kampala)
February 7, 2005 Posted to the web February 8, 2005
One of the scientists who discovered the nutritional value of aloe vera is in Uganda. The scientist met with health minister Jim Muhwezi at the ministry headquarters in Kampala on Friday.
The scientist is famous for the discovery of sugar molecules in aloe vera, which improve immunity. His discovery led to the development of the world-famous nutrients known as glyconutrients. Muhwezi said Uganda was endowed with a diversity of plants, which could be helpful in the fight against diseases.

Tsunami Relief
Google has a page with sites already set up to provide information and handle donations for victims throughout the region of Asia and east Africa where the tsunami hit. Please take a look at the page and see if you can help out in any way.
http://www.google.com/tsunami_relief.html
If you can't help by donating money, you can help by praying. This time of tragedy calls for much prayer. The following are some ways to pray:
Pray for the people affected by this disaster every time you hear about it.
Pray for the healing of the injured.
Pray for the families world-wide who have lost loved ones.
Pray for those people who have lost their homes.
Pray that disease and the spread of disease is avoided.
Pray for the wisdom, safety, and strength of relief workers.
Thank you,
Albert

New technology will advance our understanding of the role of complex sugar chains decorating the surface of cells in the body
If you're reading this blog you're aware of the amazing new science called Glycomics that has emerged within the past decade. We are in an age of advanced technology or should I say technological revolution? There are also advanced technologies emerging which enhance and make our lives easier. Below are bits and pieces I copied and pasted on a new technology for understanding sugars on cell surfaces. It's been stated that Glycomics technology is the next Frontier of medicine! ;)
---------------------------
An international consortium of scientists led by Dr. James Paulson of The Scripps Research Institute has created a technology that will advance our understanding of the role of complex sugar chains (glycans or carbohydrates) that decorate the surface of cells in the body.
The technology, known as a functional glycan microarray, is a glass slide onto which are printed hundreds of different glycan chains.
Many proteins involved in communication between cells recognize glycan structures on cell surfaces. The functional glycan microarray will speed research in glycomics, because it will allow scientists to determine to which carbohydrate structures these proteins bind.
Carbohydrate structures are very much a part of the language of life. They are like the accents on spoken words—they change the meaning without changing the spelling. Some even call carbohydrates the third alphabet, behind DNA and proteins.

Nutritional Supplements act as sources of radiation protectors
The word 'Nutraceuticals' is becoming the buzz word in quality effective nutritional supplements. Below is a gist of the tip of the iceberg of functional foods (nutraceuticals) yet to come.
Nutritional supplements, including trace elements and several plant materials like soya and amla, have been found to act as excellent sources of radiation protectors, radiation biologists say.
Nutraceuticals as exemplified by flavonoids and isoflavones and nutritional factors such as vitamin E have been demonstrated to have radioprotective properties, Dr V Srinivasan of Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute, Bethedsa, US, said at the International Conference on `Recent Trends in Radiation Biology' at BARC here.
"Low toxicity of nutraceuticals and nutritional factors is an advantage over well-known radioprotectors such as amifostine," he said, adding the Institute is working on new molecules like 5-AED and Vitamin E and gemistein are proving to be "very good" radioprotectors .
